Northern Israel Photography Workshop

Our Northern Israel Photography Workshop was designed for the adventurous photographer seeking something different, and takes us through some of the most fascinating sites in the world. Landscapes, architectural, environmental portraits and street photography can be found here.

Beautiful coastlines, biblical sites, ancient ruins, stunning areas of natural beauty, fauna and flora, remnants of Israel’s war-torn history, and some of the most diverse people found anywhere can be found here – Israel has it all.

Photography in the Galilee and Golan regions

Our Israel Adventure in the Galilee and Golan Heights is run by an experienced, multi-lingual Israeli photographer who will guide you to the most photogenic sites specifically selected for maximizing your time available in this marvelous country. The tour is designed for beginners and advanced amateurs, with an emphasis on creative travel photography techniques.

This 6-Day photo adventure starts and ends in Tel Aviv, and covers Caesarea, Acre, Rosh HaNikra, Tzfat, the Hula Valley, Rosh Pina, Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee as well as other stunning locations within the Upper Galilee and Golan Heights.

Christian sites from the Bible

Many Christian tourists make pilgrimages to Northern Israel due to the abundance of Christian sites associated with the Bible. In particular, the Galilee is dotted with holy sites where Jesus famously walked on water at the Sea of Galilee, and Yardenit, a baptism site which offers excellent photo opportunities. Capernaum is an archeological site on the northern shore, and known as the “Town of Jesus” in the Gospels.

Nazareth is saturated with Christian historical sites, such as the Basilica of the Annunciation, the Church of St. Joseph, Mount Tabor and Kfar Cana. Megiddo the Canaanite city rebuilt by King David is according to New Testament tradition, the site of Armageddon – the location of the end of the world in the End of Days.

While Israeli guides cannot enter Bethlehem, this town is a highlight for Christian pilgrims. Know in Hebrew as Beit Lechem [House of Bread], Bethlehem is the birthplace of Jesus, and houses the Church of the Nativity. The population of Bethlehem is Arabic speaking, and made up of Geek Orthodox, Lain Catholic, Syriac Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic communities.

Photography at the Holy Town of Tzfat [Safed]

 One of the four Holy Towns of Israel, together with Jerusalem, Tiberias and Hebron, Tzfat is the highest elevation city in Israel, and is associated with the element of air in Jewish tradition. Together with the sky, the town was painted in different shades and tones of the color blue, This is evident in many streets within the Artists Quarter and the ancient synagogue, where even tombstones are painted in blue color.

During the 16th Century, Tzfat became the cradle of Jewish Mysticism, known as the Kabbalah. Scholars that escaped the Spanish Inquisition from the Iberian Peninsular fled here. Key mysticism figures that called this town home include Rabbis Isaac Luria, Joseph Caro and Simon Bar Yochai amongst other sages.

Notable landmarks include the Abuhav Synagogue, the Ari Mikveh and the Joseph Caro Synagogue. The synagogues are wonderfully photogenic, and can provide excellent photo opportunities with some patience. Using telephoto lenses at the Jewish cemetery can offer good contrast of Hassidic Jews in black against the pale blue color of the headstones.

Tzfat is also one of our personal favorite locations in Israel for street photography. As well as the photogenic backdrops, the people of Tzfat have a quirky and curious mix of relaxed hippy and ultra-orthodox characters. This leaves you with an impression of a people that genuinely seem happy living their lives here.

Unlike street photography in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, where the fast paced life means that everyone seems to be on a mission to get somewhere in a hurry, photographing strangers in Tzfat offers a refreshing change, where people move slower and genuinely seem interested in stopping for a chat and often open to accept having their portrait taken.
